From October 9th to 11th GEA Tuchenhagen has exhibited at BIOTECHNICA 2007 in Hannover/Germany.

We have presented our product range of VESTA sterile valves with all types as well as the VESTA valve ring distribution system and our VARIPURE cleaning technology.

VESTA sterile valves by GEA Tuchenhagen with EHEDG certification

The VESTA range of sterile valves by GEA Tuchenhagen – a new generation of shut-off valves for sterile applications – has been specially developed for the pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and biotech markets. The valves heart is the PTFE bellows which acts as a sealing element with a patented sealing system and long service life.
Process reliability and maximum product quality are known requirements of sterile applications. In particular, shut-off valves must be reliable as they perform a key role in hermetically sealing the process interior off against the external atmosphere. Shut-off valves also have to be CIP/SIP cleanable.
Successful and reproducible cleaning is only possible - if a ‘Cleaning in Place’ (CIP) procedure is used - if particular design criteria are met. In addition to the quality (topography) of the surfaces in contact with the product, the geometry, above all, has a decisive influence.
One of the significant development aims was to provide proof of cleanability. Modern development tools – such as flow simulation – were used to draw conclusions regarding the cleaning efficiency as early as possible in the development stage.
The results of the EHEDG cleaning test of the VESTA range of sterile valves proved to be more than satisfactory. All of the test runs produced excellent cleaning results. An appropriate report – the precondition for issuing an EHEDG certificate – is available.
The EHEDG certification of the VESTA range of sterile valves means that the final building block of the development – namely proof of cleanability – is now in place. In achieving this level of certification, GEA Tuchenhagen has clearly demonstrated to users that these products feature state-of-the-art technology and cleanability.

VESTA sterile valves up to DN 65 available!

The VESTA range of sterile valves is now also available in larger nominal widths. The extended range includes the following sizes:

  • new - DN 32, 40, 50, 65 (DIN pipe class)
  • new - 42.4, 48.3, 60.3, 76.1 (ISO pipe class)
  • new - 1 ½ “, 2“, 2 ½ “ (OD pipe class)

This expansion of the range means that we are now able to offerusers complex areas of application based on their sterile technicalrequirements, even for larger flow volumes. The extended VESTA range of valves is designed for manual operation, with NC/NO pneumatic actuators made from plastic and stainless steel (can be equipped with T.VIS monitoring systems) and in various other housings.

VESTA Multiport – innovative ring distribution system for complex processing !

The valve ring distribution systems on VESTA sterile valves allow complex processing using different operating, cleaning and sterilisation media. Compared with conventional systems with single valves or complex and expensive valve blocks, the single seat valves in the VESTA Multiport distribution system are located
pocket-free in a ring with an appropriate annular passage cross section.
The modular construction of the ring distribution system allows the configuration to be changed to meet the individual task. A maximum of six isolation valves can be located in both the inlet and return circuits. It is also possible to have differing valve sizes in one ring. Moreover, the VESTA Multiport allows different flow directions for the inlet and return pipework with fixed grid spacings to be planned in advance.
VESTA Multiport systems are designed to be pocket-free and CIP Compliant. They provide a total drainage capability, can be located in the smallest of spaces, and at the same time set new standards In terms of cost effectiveness.

New benefits for the plant designer:

  • Minimisation of the costs for planning and installation
  • Qualification and validation of the system in the production plant
  • Reduction of the time required for planning, supply, installation and commissioning
